I dropped my lad off a few weeks ago, I put my £5 in the machine and the barrier did not open, So i presses the button for assistance, a voice come in. I explained what had happened and the voice said, I'll send a techo down to ya, So my lane is now blocked, I waited about 15 mins until the machine engineer, opened the machine gave me my fiver back and said now try again, the machine wanted £20,,,,,,,,So I pressed the help button again and they said well its because you have over stayed the £5 tarriff, I told them , No way am i paying For the time i've been trapped here and after a short discussion, They lifted the barrier, So be careful out there, Don't let them bully you into paying more,,,

Drop-off is free at Liverpool airport for up to 40 minutes "to give people time to help passengers with their baggage and wave them off at security"!.

I just get the train nowadays if possible. Costs £7.40 off peak from Wigan to t' airport reduced to £4.85 with railcard. I just searched for an advance ticket for 2 weeks today, total cost is £2.20 or £1.45 if use the railcard.

I've paid £3.70 from Newton le Willows to Manchester Airport. Normal price off-peak is £6.20.

That's the only good thing about Manchester Airport, the train in and out. But it doesn't run after about 10pm so, if your flight is a late one it's useless. And it can take you 1 hour getting through passport control.

I agree tonker, advance fares aren't too wise on the way back home and fingers crossed you don't have a late flight. I rarely fly chartered so only had the joy of using Liverpool once. I loved it, we just pondered outside by foot, jumped on the first bus and got all the way home courtesy of arriva. Would go liverpool every time if i could.

We have a cell phone arrival area. You stay there until the person you are picking up calls you and advises where they are. You just drive there and pick them up. Total cost ZILCH.

Manchester Airport is joinly owned and managed by an Australian Invesestment Comany and the ten local authorirties of Greater Manchester, the majority of which are Labour controlled. Manchester City Council own 35.5% of the shares with the other nine authorities owning 29% and the investment company owning the remaining 35.5%

Nothing to do with the elected Mayor of Greater Manchester, so draw your own conclusion of whom is making the charges and gaining any profits.

I hate Manchester Airport

I first went there in the early 1960s when I was a little un, and it was called Ringway Airport then, that is what it said above the entrance 'Ringway Airport' and throughout me life I have watched that place grow, through the mid to late 1970s into the 1980s and then 90s and by the late 1990s it was OK, it had the three terminals, and plenty of space to drop off and pick up, and then there was 9/11 and the increase in worldwide terrorism, and they shut off the dropping off and picking up areas, and declared war on the motorists using the airport, use airport taxis or the train, that is what they said, well airport taxis charge about double what Wigan taxis charge, and like it has already been mentioned the trains don't run all night.

And then they started charging to drop off and pick up folk. I mean what has happened to the country at all

I hate Manchester Airport and Liverpool is better, but even so I hate Liverpool airport too

Why is everything so crap these days

Eggbeater,
That is what it is called. The flashing overhead signs tell me that. When in Rome etc.

People need to think things through

If there were no drop off or waiting charges there would be even MORE cars driving round clogging the roads and spaces up while waiting for people to come out.

Then you really would have something to moan about!

How about a {{{'proper'}}} off airport drop off area, and ID security checking zone, and then a free transport to the terminal service via an overhead railway shuttle system, this would keep cars and none travelling folk away from the terminals, I have travelled through such systems in America, and there is plenty of land around Manchester Airport to facilitate such a facility, and I am sure the multiple owners of Manchester Airport could finance such an obviously expensive project, but it could help increase capacity at the airport, along with perhaps a third runway at Manchester Airport

I agree completely with you on that TOM , 2s i too have noticed that in USA , but to get back to this country of ours it's UTTERLY a haven for ROBBERS also i too agree with OWD CODGER he is absolutely spot on Greater Manchester are the biggest theives with burnham at the head i have never know such high level of CORRUPTION AGAINST the ordinary populous as what is being perpetrated on folk just wanting to go away for a holiday which they deserve but no lets look at how we can squeeze the bleeders out of more money ,PURE EVIL BRITAIN HAS BECOME !!!!!!

People keep voting for the allowance seeking local councillors involved in the ripping off!

When will they learn?

Local councillors are involved in nothing of importance. They have no power whatsoever.
